Trichiasis is the presence of abnormal eyelashes that grow the wrong way. They grow in toward the eyeball and can cause significant irritation and tearing to the eye.
Trichiasis may be a result of previous surgery, scarring, trauma, inflammation or other eye diseases.
Trichiasis can be treated in a number of different ways including regular pulling of the lash. This will require the lash to be pulled every 3 months by your doctor. Other, more permanent options include lash follicle destruction via laser, cryotherapy or radiofrequency. Surgical treatment is also an option at times.
